It does not matter if you have gone fishing, hiking, camping, or kayaking, a cooler is an essential piece of equipment among your gear. We all need food. We all love food. A cooler will keep your food safe as your journey into the unknown.
The RTIC SoftPak is one of the best coolers on the market. With a durable exterior and a technology-packed interior, this cooler will keep your food safe, cool, and protected. It is a flexible cooler which can accompany you on your adventures.
Let’s take a closer look at what makes this such a great cooler.
RTIC SoftPak 30
The RTIC SoftPak is a soft cooler; instead of having hard sides, it has soft sides. The flexible nature of the cooler means that it can fit into tighter spaces and expand and contract as needed.
RTIC’s mission is to be a world leader in coolers, promising to hold more ice and food that their competitors while saving you money by having a lower purchase price.
The RTIC SoftPak underwent a renovation in 2017, improving the capacity, insulation, durability, and portability. Why you see today is one of the most technologically advanced soft coolers on the market.
Who Should Use a SoftPak?
Who is the ideal customer for this product?
With the soft shell, we would have to say: everyone. The soft shell means that this can integrate into the life of any person.
It is extremely easy to use, unzip it, put in some ice, and add food. You do not need to have used a cooler before to use this.
For what you get, this is an affordable product, making it perfect for anyone who is on a budget. The only thing detracting from this cooler is the size.
If you are a solo adventurer, then it may be a little too big for your needs, and a smaller cooler will be better, but for most people, it will be the perfect size for their needs.
Be prepared for a pretty unexciting unboxing, when getting the product you ordered. What you see online is pretty much what you get in the box.
You do not need to worry about damaging your cooler when it is in the box, other than it being pierced by anything sharp.
When you open your box, you will find your SoftPak cooler. Inside the cooler, you will find zipper lubrication and the shoulder strap.
Is there assembly required?
If you mean connecting the shoulder strap and adding some lubrication to the zipper, then yes. Add some ice, and you are ready to go.
This is a soft cooler, with a soft exterior. Inside, you will find two inches of insulation. You should note that this brings down the storage area from what you may expect when you look at the outside.
The insulation is made from closed-cell foam, the same material used in many wetsuits. It holds the cold extremely well and will also resist water, which is great for protecting against mold. The thickness helps to hold in the cold for up to five days.
The exterior is soft, but that does not mean that it is not durable. The nylon shell is puncture and tear resistant.
It can be compressed, bumped, dropped, dented, and rubbed without the exterior materials perforating.
We love the flexibility when we are packing it with other gear. It fits well in the trunk of your car, into a kayak, or onto a boat.
The zipper works extremely well, and ether is extra lubricant should it start to stick. The problem with many coolers is that when the ice begins to melt, then liquid can spill out through the zip. The SoftPak seals the liquid in for a waterproof seal.
Capacity is an important consideration when it comes to coolers. You do not want your cooler to take up too much space, but you still want a lot of room for your beverages inside.
The SoftPak 30 measures 13.5” x 15” x 11.25”. This cooler will not take up a lot of space and, due to the flexibility, will squeeze into slightly smaller spaces.
When at full capacity, this cooler can hold 30 lbs. of ice, 30 cans, or a combination of both.

There are not many disadvantages to this cooler. If you want a larger or smaller cooler, then the SoftPak also comes in a variety of sizes. The RTIC cooler gets the job done, but one concern is the lack of color and design choices. SoftPak is perfect for anyone on a budget, but if you would like something with a larger variety of colors or designs, then a Yeti cooler may be worth looking into.
For what you pay, you really cannot find a better cooler. RTIC have worked hard to include the critical cooler features without going overboard on the design and extras. When you are looking for something to keep your beer cold, this will do it while not setting you back a lot of money. When something works, we always look at the price. This cooler works a lot better than many rival coolers, at a fraction of the cost.
The soft shell is a big help when you are packing up your equipment, and also offer extra protection, over hard shells, when it comes to drops and bumps. The RTIS SoftPak is a tough cooler which is going to last you a long time. The durability only makes it better value for money. If you are not sold, then just think about how long it can keep ice frozen. We tested it for three days, and the ice was solid. This is a great cooler.
